If you wonder how competitive a Pantera might be against other historic Group 5 cars - just check out Ralf Kelleners driving a 1975 Group 4 Pantera, starting alongside a Zakspeed Capri (which eventually falls out with mechanical issues), and ultimately winning the race!

It seems that Germany has become the global nexus for historic Pantera racing - between these outstanding events and drivers, and the incredible Braun Motorsport built Gr4 Panteras!

27 April 2016 - Luis Villalba wins Targa Trophy Iberia

At Circuito de Barcelona-Catalunya last weekend the Pantera of Luis Villalba won Sunday's race to capture the Targa Trophy Iberia. A Porsche came in second behind the Pantera ... perhaps reminding us of similar battles from 1972?

Señor Villalba's racing experience includes other Ford powered race cars. He drove this Saleen Mustang in the Spanish GT series in 1999-2002 - one of two Saleen SR Mustangs to race at Le Mans in 1997, and one of only three Mustangs to ever race in the Le Mans 24 Hr.

The two Saleen SR  Mustangs were the first to return to the Le Mans 24 Hr after 30 years. (The only other Mustang to race at Le Mans was the Claude Dubois managed team racing a '66 Shelby GT350 in '67). To commemorate their return, and to recognize the prior Ford and Mustang presence at the 24Hr, the Le Mans organizers assigned numbers 66 and 67 to the two Saleen Mustangs - a nice tribute. (The new Ford GTs in 2016 were likewise numbered based on their earlier years at the 24Hr Le Mans.)

And recognize Claude's name? Claude Dubois' team took the first win for a Pantera at the Spa 1000 km World Championship event in 1972 beating out the factory backed Kremer Racing Porsche 911.

Interesting how some of these historic events, teams and people are sometimes connected!
